Interview with The Fab 5 Bowtique

When did you start sewing/creating your clothing/accesories and why?

I started making bows three years ago when my second to last baby was born and boy were they U*G*L*Y!!! I sure thought they were da bomb though LOL! It was a little over a year ago that I started sewing. My husband was tired of me spending ungodly amoumts of money on customs and demanded that I learn to make them myself! So I did and now my kids are the ones that I don't ever get to sew for and I'm still buying customs LOL!

When did you start selling on ebay?

I started selling on ebay a few years ago. It was a little scarry at first, but now it's going pretty good

What was the first thing you sold on ebay? Do you have a photo?

The first piece of clothing I sold on ebay was this dress, and I was sooooo thrilled that I even made it LOL!

What is your favorite design- photo- and why?

I just love this skirt set. I don't know if it's the set that I actually love, or just the fabric or pictures, but at any rate I love it!!!

What do you enjoy doing other than sewing/creating your designs?

I am a TV junkie! I DVR just about every trashy reality tv show known to man and stay up late and watch them!!! My favorite show ever though is Deadliest Catch! I could watch those episodes over and over again and still love them : )

What would you like to add?

I'd like to thank my husband for being the best husband in the world. My house is never clean, I don't cook, and although I do sell every now and then, he is my major investor in this venture. I couldn't do it with out him!!!

Lily Haven Interview

When did you start sewing/creating your clothing/accessories and why?

I started sewing when my daughter was born. She's my inspiration! I wanted to create unique and beautiful clothing for her, and then everyone started asking me where they could buy some for their daughters. I decided to put a few customs on ebay, and it was so much fun. I love when customers share pictures of their daughter's in my creations. It makes me happy!

When did you start selling on ebay?

April 2007.

What was the first thing you sold on ebay? Do you have a photo?

It was this Nursery Rhymes 3 piece set. I loved the old fashioned character of the outfit.

What is your favorite design and why?

It's impossible to choose a favorite because I try to make all of my creations so different. But, I do love this "Sweet Joy" set. It's vintage, feminine and charming.

What do you enjoy doing other than sewing/creating your designs?

I enjoy spending time with my family, blogging, spending time outside in the garden and shopping for unique finds.

What would you like to add?

I am going to try making some fun new hair accessories. More headbands, headscarves and fabric flowers.

Bow*Diddly Boutique Interview

When did you start sewing/creating your clothing/accesories and why?

I started creating accessories when my daughter Samantha was about 4. I figured I was paying a TON of money to other people for bows and necklaces, why not learn to make my own!
Soon after I bought my 1st sewing machine... I noticed after awhile of making bows that the real money was in CLOTHES! LOL
I took my 1st sewing lesson and made overalls for Samantha.. everyone in the class was flabbergasted! They had never seen anything like it.. they were all making skirts, tees, etc.
DON'T LAUGH!!

~When did you start selling on ebay?

I started about 5 years ago.

~What was the first thing you sold on ebay? Do you have a photo?

I looked at looked for my 1st pair of bows that I sold on e-bay, I can't FIND them!!

But I do have my highest selling ribbon tee! This tee sold for $68!!

~What is your favorite design and why?

I have LOTS of favorites but I think I like this one as one of my all-time favs. I just love the pictures that's why, it has all the accessories and it just came together. It also describes my life a bit, wild & funky.

AND THIS one got me featured on a blog or 2.

~What do you enjoy doing other than sewing/creating your designs?

I LOOOOVE playing TENNIS!! I play on a doubles team and I play on another team where I play singles. This was my 1st season playing singles and out of 8 matches I only lost one! I was thrilled and my rating went from a 2.5 level to a 3.0 in one season!

I also LOVE watching my kids play sports! My son is a goalie for a select soccer team and my daughter just made the all-star team for Softball. I just love cheering them on!

~What would you like to add?

That I just love what I do and even though it makes my life crazy sometimes trying to fit everything in, I wouldn't change it one bit!
The feeling you get when someone compliments your children's clothes and the look on their face when you say you made it... PRICELESS!

Belles~N~Beaus Designs Interview

When did you start sewing/creating and why?

I started sewing when I was in middle school. My mom tried to teach me and I wasn't very interested so I didn't do it for long. I went back to a sewing machine when Ethan was born, almost 7 years ago because I wanted Ethan to have special outfits for his birthday, Christmas, etc.

When did you start selling on ebay?

I started selling my designs on ebay over 6 years ago!! Yikes! I started making clothing for Ethan and everyone that saw them told me I should sell them, so I started listing them on ebay and offering them in boutiques in Metro-Atlanta.

What was the first thing you sold on ebay?

When I first started selling on ebay, I specialized in overalls and offered mostly hand-painted designs. My first ebay sale was a pair of hand-painted Wiggles overalls for $75 and I am still friends with the customer that bought them. :o)

When my Snoopy overalls sold for $95, I was ecstatic!

What is your favorite design and why?

I have so many favorite designs, it is hard to choose! LOL.
My favorite recent girls design would have to be the Cat in the Hat set because it came out so fun!

An older favorite would be my Strawberry Shortcake set that was a custom request for a birthday party:

And, finally, a favorite boys design would have to be my frog sheriff set because I put so much detail into it and Ethan loved it!

What do you enjoy doing, other than sewing?

Other than sewing, I enjoy spending time with my family. I am very anxious for school to get out so I can spend all day with Ethan, doing fun things. I read a lot of novels and I enjoy working in the yard and redecorating the house. I teach preschool, at a private Methodist preschool, so I am off during the summer and can spend lots of time out on the lake with my hubby and Ethan.

What else would you like to add?

I feel truly blessed to be able to do something that I absolutely adore doing. I have had such an amazing experience with my design business. I had the honor of working with Larry Lucas Inc. at the Atlanta Apparell Mart, the largest showroom on the children's floor of the Mart. While it was a great experience, I quickly learned that wholesale wasn't my cup of tea. I missed the contact with my customers, it was just too impersonal, and I quickly tired of making the same, basic, items over and over...and over, LOL. I enjoy making designs with tons of details and applique and hearing the reactions of the children when they receive their garments.
